Selective Saints

Mary and all the Martyrs
A bravery we no longer notice
Christ-like compassion’s passé
For the sake of profit
All God’s laws are quite vague

A golden pathway requires investment
Who will manage it?
Men of money and power charge by the hour

Hooray for the Red, White and Blue
All for you…and yours…but what about theirs?
Sculpted hair, tattoos and a chrome plated booger

Look at me!
Mary and all the Martyrs?
Is that a band?

very "proverbial", very post modernistic stylewise, and a i like the qualities of a social commentary that you bring to the table here. you miss out on the hood or brownie points id have given you for meter, even if it was free verse, as i hate free verse, but it was a decent poem, one of the best ive read recently from the general public. but to be real with you, saying i liked it would be stretching the truth, and not just because i think true poetry has been dead for almost a half century now if not longer.

Ha ha, I think Mary and All The Martyrs would be a great band name.
I especially loved the chrome plated booger bit too.

The only comment I will make is to do this with it...submit it to Orbis International Journal in England. You can find their address in poetrykit.org.....this is a seeping commentary which spans a breadth of styles, classes, and cultures.

Fascinating!! It's not my favorite of your poems in terms of style, but I'm intrigued by the concept--money, profit, xenophobia, heavy metal styles-- replacing the saints and human goodness.
