Hook your black wires together and your whites together. I would use wire nuts and then tape them with electrical tape. If the fixture that the light fits in is metal I would then fasten the ground wire from the light fixture to the box. Usually you can just run a metal self tapper screw into the metal box and hook your ground wire to that. I would also make real sure that no "weather" can get into the fixture. Chaulking around the fixture box where it makes contact with the building should be done also. And before ya button it all up? flip the switch and make sure it works before ya put the final touches on your new light! Good Luck!

You didn't say if the existing wire comes out of an electrical box (metal) or if it is the old armored cable (metal covered) or just the 2 colors with rubberized or fiber insulated wire. Connect the white to white and black to black and any ground wire clamped to the armor. If you're lucky and a metal box is there, the the ground wire goes to the box (clamped, clipped or on the mounting screw). Good luck ! ! !

Connect you black and white wires. Then connect the ground wire to the electrical fixture itself.

Overhead lights are the least dangerous power consumer in the house as far as short to ground. I've seen a lot of contractors omit the ground to lights even recently. The ground wire is almost irrelevant for overhead lights because nobody routinely touches the fixture while it's powered on.

most older homes do not have a grounding system... the black is power and the white is neutral.... just leave the green wire coiled up...
