It can be done - I've got it running on a Pentium II laptop with 224MB RAM. It works, it's just not real fast. And if I put any security software on there, it'll be even slower.

It'll work slow, Several versions of linux you can use that'll get you some more life out of that P2. I am running PClinuxOS2007 on a P2 400mhz.
As far as how about doing it? If you are going to purchase a copy of windows I'd say save your money for a new machine, You will be loads happier. If you have a windows disk laying around, don't ask do it. It's yours anyhow. Good luck

It runs but is slow, a pentium 3 is a better bet if you really want to have a cheap and usuable system.

Yep, it works, probably best if you have at least 512Mb RAM if you use the SP2 version.

Just remember it's not going to be a rocket ship performer but should cope with basic WP. Spreadsheet and web stuff

As mentioned, it will work with enough RAM. I have even run Programs that call for a certain CPU or RAM and I have less. The Program still works, just slower.

If you have the almost latest software anyway, why not buy a brand new computer. It would work much faster, more efficient for your needs, and you'd find it's easier to use in almost every way.

i'm very sure that you can, but i don't recommend it. i think it says you need a pentium 3

It can be done, you just need a shed load of memory (at least 256MB).
