or just a figment of your imagination? Answering because you can touch me or hear me is not acceptable since I can percieve hearing and touching the things in my dreams, but that does not make them real.

Several people are mentioning the famous "I think therefore I am" My question isn't if you are, my question is if you know that I am.

"I think therefore I am"....Naaahhhh....I am therefore I am!!!

But I digress. As you state, your question does not directly apply to my existence, rather to yours.
Soooo...
How am I to know if you exist? My inner skeptic says that I do not know as you do really exist...only that some sort of sentient being has posited a question here in this forum.
Only you can truly arrive at an answer to the question of your own reality...Good Luck with that ;-)

"A man said to the Universe "Sir, I exist..." The Universe replied "That may be, but what obligation does that involve for me." (Stephen Crane....forgive some almost certain error on my part in quoting that, as I am doing so from some very dusty memory and am sure that I didn't get it verbatim, only the gist of it.)

You're real,
even if you were a figment of my imagination you would still be real,
There is no such thing as "not real" dreams are real, thoughts are real, Jeff Buckley was SO real,
saying something isn't real is a logical fallacy, by identifying it as something at all you are making it real, Nessie is real not because there is a monster in the lake but because the idea is up for debate,
there is only one thing that is not real, nothing, or the complete absence of form or thought

I know that you are not as real as you seem.

This is more easily understandable if one considers the actual scale of the components of an atom. If one takes into account the fact that the neutrons, protons and electrons of an atom actually have huge spaces between them it becomes clear that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are made up of 99+ percent empty space.

This alone does not seem too important till you add the idea that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are more of a loose conglomeration that share a similar attraction but never really touch each other.

At first glance this does not really seem relevant, but closer analysis reveals that this adds a tremendous amount of empty space to solid objects that are already made up of atoms that are 99 percent space. When so-called solid objects are seen in this light it becomes apparent that they can in no way be the seemingly solid objects they appear to be.

We ourselves are not exceptions to this phenomenon.

These seemingly solid objects are more like ghostly images that we interpret as solid objects based on our perceptual conclusions.

From this we must conclude that Perception is some sort of a trick that helps us to take these ghostly images and turn them into a world we can associate and interact with. This clever device seems to be a creation of our intellect that enables us to interact with each other in what appears to be a three dimensional reality.

I hope that helps to answered your question.

Love and blessings Don

Don't buy into that BS "I think therefore, I am". That's beyond inanity. Trees don't think, so are you saying they aren't living. I guess all living plantation goes out the window. Rocks, stones, gold, diamonds, etc...don't have thought....well then, I guess they don't exist either. All I have to say to you is that is very deranged of you.

The truth, you aren't real. God gave us a ghost of existence. Why let that stop you from living a life worth dying for? We're not puppets, give God credit for that. Live, and what ever you do don't look back.

We only live once, this is your last life...don't waste it on inanities. We're all part of the equation, that makes us real and everything around us real. If you can't believe that then you've failed yourself and deserve drowning in sorrow. Look up the definition of "Sloth". Ya big baby.

Look here DMG! I authorize my own will to be, because I am Hight Thoughts the inherent, and creator of my own perceptions. If my imagination defines you as an existence and my mind conceives and authorizes this perceived truth to be reality, then by golly you are real. It matters not what you think (If you exists on your dimensional reality) I authorize you on mine. I ordain and agree to it. My dreams may be authentic as well. I decide.

I know you are a real because you are spirit with a soul clothed in flesh. With that said you are created in the image and likeness of God.

Desecrates a famous philosopher said he knew he was real for this one simple output. I have ideas independent of who I am. He said " I think therefore I am."

Why would I imagine you? If I wanted to imagine someone, it wouldn't be you. You are real because I have no interest in making up a person such as yourself.

I don't even care if you are real, or if I am.

If I live in a fantasy created in something else's imagination it is still real to me.

Perception may be truth, and frequently is, because truth, like reality, is also subjective.
