It's wrong I see this as people enjoying the holiday traditions of someone elses faith and making it their own. If you feel you are unreligious and want to celebrate during the month of December then make your own traditions but don't put a spoof on someones customs and religion. I see this as the stores wanting to reach a mass market rather then even caring about the meaning behind the Christmas tree.
The fir tree has for many years been associated with Christianity. It started in Germany 1000 or so ago when St Boniface converted the German people to Christianity. As the story goes St. Boniface came across a group of pagans who were worshipping and oak tree.and in anger, St Boniface cut down the oak tree and to his amazement a young fir tree sprung up from the roots of the oak tree. This is how this became a sign of Christian faith.
The triangular shape of the Fir Tree describes the Holy Trinity of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. People started to revere the Fir Tree as "God's Tree". The tree has became a symbol of Christianity, and was being hung upside-down from the ceiling as a sign of Christianity. So actually when you saw those trees in stores that were upside down that was the original tradition.
16th century is when fir trees were brought indoors at Christmas time.

I have a friend who has an artificial tree. She keeps it up all year long and decorates it for all the holidays, Valentines, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving,,baby showers, parties, wedding showers, whatever excuse comes along. We all think it's great, even tho some of her friends and readers (she is a food columnist for our newpaper) think she is a bit, well, odd.
So, who says it is just a Christmas tree? Besides, Christmas is a holiday, after all, isn't it? And it is a pagan thing that was just adopted by the Christians, so that does not make it a Christian tree. Mine is for the Solstice, as well, not just for Christmas.
And they are just words. Live and let live, not everybody can conform to the same ideas. It would be a boring old world if we did, wouldn't it? And there would be no reason for Y/A.
To cottonheaded ninny: You haven't been to a Christmas store lately, have you? There are ornaments for EVERYTHING!

It is ridiculous. This is political correctness gone too far, and I think some business and religious leaders need to cop on to themselves. We need to be able to co-exist!
We can't all live by the rules of a specific religion. For example, if you're Lutheran, you try to behave like a good Lutheran should, without trying to persecute your neighbour for being Catholic. After all, they're just trying to be good Catholics. The key point though, is that a country's law should be above any religious laws. When you're for example in Spain, you obey Spanish law. In South Africa, you obey their law. Otherwise we'll end up with a very scary world (or are we there already?) with actions based on rules set down thousands of years ago, when the world was a very different place. How difficult is this to understand/accept?!
I don't belong to a specific religion. I don't object to Christmas trees (or should I call it a yule tree, seeing as the tradition predates the old testament), menorahs etc. I like that we're all different. What I don't approve of, is sensoring something so innocent as a Christmas Tree. How on Earth can that offend anyone? Well, anyone who doesn't have a stick up their *** that is.

Um, last time I checked, jesus wasn't born under a decorated tree, so its not part of a religious belief...but anyway....
Its ridiculous that they are calling them holiday trees. I don't see other type of ornaments out there...they don't have jewish themed ornaments, kwanza ornaments....and what have you. They are all christmas based. Ugh....it annous me. Its a FREAKING CHRISTMAS TREE!

I don't buy holiday trees. If they don't sell Christmas trees, I guess I have to go somewhere else.

Honestly, I really don't care what they call them. I find it more annoying that people are making such a big deal about it.

I think it is dumb. No one wants to offend anyone, but in my opinion you are offending people no matter what.
