Go in the summer when the sun doesn't set until after 11 PM. Obviously Copenhagen is the biggest attraction : don't miss Tivoli (especially magical at night), Amalienborg palace, shopping along the Stroget, the Little Mermaid statue in the harbor. Take a side trip to Roskilde, about 25 miles from Copenhagen: see the Viking Museum and Roskilde Cathedral, where all Denmark's kings and queens for the last 1,000 years have been buried. Another good side trip: Helsingor, just north of Copenhagen, where Shakespeare set his "Hamlet."

Amalienborg castle, Kastellet, Tivoli gardens, the Little Mermaid, the town square area in downtown, Rosenborg and the Resistance Museum are all great places. Christianshavn is also very interesting. It is an old hippy haven with lots of neat restaurants and shops. You should really take a cruise of the canals while you are there. The people of Denmark are awesome and will help direct you in using public transport. I went during the summer while the temperature was in the 70's.
