Yes, magnets work.
Here is how:
Inflammatory compounds are ions so they have an electro-magnetic charge. It is a law* of physics that ions react to magnetic charges. That is, the ion will move either towards or away from the magnetic field produced by the magnet.
This gives the ions a greater chance to mix with anti-oxidants in the body which neutralizes the ion. Hence, no more inflammation from that ion. Depending on how many anti-oxidants you have in your body will help to determine how effective the magnet is.
In other words, magnets and anti-oxidants work as a team.
*A law of physics means it is true whether one knows it or not, and whether one believes it or not. Thus, the pain reduction is not a placebo but the result of the physical law combined with the presence of adequate anti-oxidants.
The best to you.

I have been trying one for about 7 weeks now, and have not really noticed any difference yet; but I am optomistic that I may be one of the lucky 'late starters'. I will keep watching your answers to see whether anyone else has had late results. I am told that even animals do sometimes respond, so it can't be 'all in the mind'.

Apparently they do work. Hubby bought one (a cheaper alternative) as a bracelet and he noticed a difference. It depends on each individual, they work for some and not others.

The power of the mind is surprisingly powerful - so who knows - give it a go and see what happen you might find it works for you ? We are only limited by our own fears and prejudice.

my mother in law bought me a headband containing them for headaches....it does seem to work but might just be placebo effect? plus as well i tend to take some painkillers, put on the headband & lie down....so me thinks it might not be the headband doing the trick?!
