The cheapest way to build a website for your own without having to spend a fortune on software is to learn HTML and CSS code. You can then build your website using a program like Notepad (which is free on all computers) and by saving the code as a .html file, which can then be displayed in your browser.
You could also use "cut-and-paste" web page creators like Yahoo Geocities, which let you insert your own images and text whilst working direclty on the internet.
The websites below are good starting points for people who are new to HTML and CSS. Good luck!

Building your website is going to take a commitment of time and money, so set a limit on both, and then dig in. The first thing you want to do after you have your idea and are ready to build a website is to plan it out. This doesn't have to be a big, complicated spreadsheet, or a fancy graphic presentation, but at the very least, you will want to know what goes where. Most people gravitate to free web hosting without too much thought, but there can be drawbacks to free hosting. You don’t always get as much space, you might be required to run their ads on your site, or there may be bandwidth limits. Watch this video it will be helpful to you.

I’m using a great online company called Sitesell. This is the very first time I have ever built a website, so I needed a company who could take me by the hand, step by step!
I have nothing but praise for them! They make EVERYTHING so easy! They supply all of the online training, simple (yet incredibly sophisticated tools) and excellent support.
There is small annual hosting fee to pay but that includes all of the above plus your domain registration. They even supply the templates for designing your site! And don't worry about html coding or other techy stuff as that's all taken care of for you!
My site is only 18 months old. but It’s already very highly ranked by the major search engines and is attracting more than 30,000 visitors a month…..and rising! Plus it generates an income which not only well exceeds the costs, but actually shows a very healthy profit!
You can get more details from my information page at:

Best wishes

Depending on how you work
FrontPage will build pages and show you what they look like while also allowing you to look directly at the HTML and if you wish, handle the publishing (updating the online files.) About $150.
For less money, you can get CuteHTML and CuteFTP and use your browser to look at the results. CuteHTML is a code editor that color codes what you put in to show you missing end symbols, etc. CuteFTP is a program to update files on line. I use it to manage several sites because I don't what to deal with Microsoft's web organization and publishing. When working in CuteHTML, you open your browser(s) and open the local copy of the page. Each time you save and want to see the results of your change, you switch to the browser(s) and click on Refresh (or push F5) and the page is loaded and displayed. Some people like this better because they think they can write better code than Microsoft and because FrontPage puts in MS features that work in Explorer, but fail or are different in FireFox and Opera. By having all three browsers open, one can compare the changes as one makes them. [Actually, you can do the same thing with FrontPage, but working in What You See Is What You Get mode tends to isolate you from the code.]
