Not at all. Many great things have happened in my life with no strings attached. My meeting of my future wife and then my marriage of 37 years. There was not cost, because it is a shared event. I suffer from many mental health issues, but my wife, family, friends and doctors keep me where I need to be. If there is a cost to this I have not found it. The only cost in my life that was devastating was the death of my mother from lung cancer ten years ago. Her death was not the cost, the cost was last year they found a cure for her type of cancer and I would not have lost her. But that is medical science.

No, I don't agree. 'Piper'? Who is this Piper?
What you are implying is that there is some malevolent force (gods, or pipers, or elves, the universe, or whatever) keeping track of the good that happens to each of us so they can ding us later. This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. There is no evidence at all for this and it flies in the face of natural laws and is just plain silly.
And, if you talk yourself into believing this, you'll have a pathetic life.

When a good thing happens, its a reward you've already paid for. You're confused with the saying ' There's no such thing as a free lunch'.
