Dell is infamous for OPP...in this case it isn't Ontario Provincial Police, it's "Other People's Parts." This means that they use refirbished parts and charge you new prices. Needless to say they don't do it with every computer, but still.
In any case...avoid Wally World. You might find a computer at a cheap price, but you'll have next to no tech support, and the people selling them likely haven't a clue. Since you're obviously American, I can't say anything for Circuit City, since I've never been in one. I will, however, presume that it is like Best Buy and Staples. In this case, this means that the computers are about 2-3 "generations" old. But, since you're looking for a "cheap" computer, that probably won't matter to you.
Since you're already on-line...after-all you posted this question...you can go to the Best Buy and Circuit City websites easily enough. However, for Staples, you may have to register in order to check prices. The only problem is that you (generally) won't be able to buy anything but their store models.
In any case, look at the program suite you will be using, find-out what the system requirements the most demanding program has, and better the computer over those requirements by half (processor speed can be left reasonably close)... If the most demading program recommends 512Mb of memory, ensure that your computer has at least 768Mb. This will allow the programs to run faster on a "slow" processor.

Accomodation smart, Torino & Genova are @ an intensive cost, Roma's next and overlook Venice, no such problem as some thing inexpensive or low priced there. :-/ bypass to Genova, this is a good city to work out and stay in, plus you may breathe that alluring fragrance of .... pollutants? lol, I propose, the fragrance of .... the sea (of love). lol Buon viaggio. :)>

compaq are cheap but horrible. I think HP has them listed at like 299 for the season. Try best buy, they have great deals there, better than walmart.

Search for the stores online -- most of them have a store locater, and also links to their current sale flyers.
