This is really a problem and it disturbs me that these children are having a hard time learning and someday they will run the country. I feel either the system has let them down or they just don't want to be bothered to improve themselves or maybe adults are having the same problem.

I'd say 95% and that's being conservative! It boggles my mind. Also, there are older people who do not spell correctly or use proper grammar.

I believe one cause is the instant text messaging and computer shortcut lingo. If anything, they should learn the correct venue to use each style. It's irritating and scary!

Some adults have the same problem, but lazy teens far outnumber anyone else. When you make them used to SMS and other short - cut messaging, it reflects everywhere.

How lazy must a person be not to run a spell - check even when there's an automatic mechanism available for it?

I don't think someone's grammar, or inaccurate spelling is a reflection of their over-all intelligence.

But the message boxes have Spell Check... and some are even too lazy to correct the little fuzzy red lines, lol, for the convenience of the reader...

I do think some are getting quite lazy... oh well...

It's not just the children is it? I can't believe how many adults are having trouble on here too! I think it's a cross between your two suggestions.

Its not only Children but adults that can't spell. They are so used to taking short cuts and don't check what they have written.
