The way I understand it is that at a very young age the female is castrated and only a little whole is left for the release of urine and mentrual fluids. Wouldn't this cause uncleanliness, infection, and pain? How can the woman have sex when she is married if the hole is that small? Is there a precedure to open the hole so it doesn't rip and cause her even more damage?

Female castration is the removal of the clitoris.....the purpose is to reduce her sexual pleasure later in life. In the west this barbaric custom is also done to female infants who's genitals do not fit the established "norm" with exactly the same effect but because it is considered "correcting" an intersexed condition it is excused, often by the same people who find the exact same practice done in other cultures to be butchery.

The vaginal opening is not operated on, the urethra on the female is located between the vaginal opening and the clitoris, neither is involved in the procedure.

It's supposed to remove the pleasure of sex, so that the woman would remain chaste till she is wed and chaste throughout marriage. BUT that does not remove the desire for sex, just that pleasure there. But here is the kicker. Sometimes they cut them pretty deeply and stitch them so tightly that passing a baby is nearly impossible. And just because you take the stitches out does not mean that it goes back to normal. If that was the case more women that have had this done could visit the gynecologist, guess what they can't! The speculum can't even get in there! And most of these women have horrible labors. They often tear! And yes they do suffer from hygiene issues.

i would guess the reason would be to keep the girl from having what ( they ) would call impure thoughts about sex,,, it is believed that if this practice is done, the girl will stay pure untill marrige,,, i believe it is demeaning to the woman,,, should be illegal,,but it is after all ,their belief and who am i to question belief's about what someone else believe's in? the reality of it , most female castrations are done in small huts,, while being held down, using less than sterial intsruments. i would think it causes a great deal of pain,,and a higer rate of infection,,,i don't think the size of her hole has anything to do with sex seeing as what they cut off are the lips and the little man in the boat,( lack of better word ) she would still be able to have relationships and even give birth,,

My understanding is that when the woman gets married, the stitches are removed so the opening is back to its original size. The purpose of this practice, according to the group that practice it, is to remove pleasure from having an intercourse (by removing clitoris) and make it physically impossible (by stitching together the opening).

This way, they can ensure the virginity of the female population. They also believe, deriving pleasure, even in married sex, leads to promiscuity.

Very barbaric act....

It is sick and barbaric..the men in those nations that practice this should themselves be castrated and their balls fed to their livestock!
