Put it close to your door. That way you're more likely to hear someone,unless ur asleep. I think in the event of the sign disappearing,you could tell the kids that another child not so lucky needed it more !

santa has a list of all the good children and will know where he has to stop.
he also has a list of all the naughty children and knows where to pass on by.
the sign will not make any difference
