This expression originates from the idea that if you have a grass fire you can fight it by burning a controlled stretch of grass in the path of the moving fire. When the fire meets the burned out section it goes out.

Because people are still evil at heart. not necessarily your Mom, but those around her. For example, WHY was she hit from behind? The truck drive SHOULD have been looking forward, seen your mother, and stopped his vehicle in a safe manner. WHY DIDN'T THAT HAPPEN??? What was the driver doing that caused him to FAIL to maintain proper control of his vehicle? 7 years ago, he probably wasn't texting, but this is why a rear-end collisions is almost always the fault of the driver in the last vehicle. Sorry -- you mom got in the way, a victim of the evil of an inattentive driver. The evil wasn't aimed AT her -- she was just in the way at the time. So, what happened to the lawyer? Why did the lawyer shirk his duties and bail? Why did he allow people to get paid off? People are inherently evil -- and you mom is in the wrong place at the wrong time, yet again. do you REALLY expect people to live forever? Even without disease and accidentt, people die. That is NOT a "bad thing happening to good people" -- that is the normal outcome expected from someone who is alive! No harm was intended to your mother, and no blame should be placed. face it, you mother IS going to die someday. is SHE evil because she will leave YOU alone? Blaming people for dying is a very bad way to live your life. Maybe YOU are the "bad thing" happening to a "good person" like your mom -- making HER feel guilty that she IS going to go the route of everyone else on the plent, and DIE, leaving YOU alone. that is SHAMFEUL of you to keep reminding her of that! the fact is, SH!T HAPPENS! Bad thing happen when NORMAL people don't make the effort to be good -- to pay FULL attention when they are driving, to uphold their committments to other people, and even whining and blaming God for the things that they can;t control. Bad thigns are going to CONTINUE to happen. YOUR job is not to find blame, but to learn to look PAST THEM, look to a future WITH GOD instead of a present on earth where Satan dwells. So STOP WHINING, start praying tha God will SHOW YOU His will (instead of praying that He follow YOUR suggestions to what YOU think is a good life), and be thankful that both you and your mother are STILL alvie to be able to praise Him NOW, while other people can hear and learn the truth.
