What do you think about the Yahoo news report that according to the University of California research, legalizing same sex marriage in Maryland would result in $3.2 million dollars GAIN to the state's budget and significantly boost the state's economy.

It sure has in Massachusetts.

Stricly on a pro business and tax savings point, What do you think about this?

Well, Repubs have their heads up their boots anyway, but I'm wondering how that's happening? It's very interesting and I'd like to read about it, so do you have a link?

Conservative here....

My personal opinion is sort of radical....

Why is the Government in the business of marrying anyway? If 4 women, 2 men, 3 sheep, and a wallaby want to call themselves a name like a "family" why should the government care???

3 Men?

12 women?

Why is it that some poligamists (not warren jeffs, but the non-criminal ones) are prosecuted but someone like Hugh Hefner is not?

So, as a republican and conservative, I think Government has no business saying who can live with who (which wouldn't bring in that 3.2 Million to the state). Leave it to the private sector, individuals, and charities to create formal relationships. Have a lawyer draw up a marriage contract. Leave the state out of it.

And this, by the way, would save states a boat load of money. No more marriage offices, fewer court cases, etc.

That is not true. Please explain HOW Gay marraige will bring money into the state?
I believe that all states now allow for Civil Unions. Civil Union as defined by the statutes provide THE SAME benefits, guarantees, and protections as marraige; the only difference is the deffinition.
Whether a straight couple applies for Marraige or a gay couple applies for Civil Union, they still pay the applicable taxes and fees AND they both qualify for the same tax breaks and incentives later on.

The May Marraige vs. Civil Union debate has nothing to do with economics. At one time, yes that was part of it, but Supreme Court and State rulings have decided that they are equal, but should still be defined differently. Now the battle is over the name. Gays o not want to be "Civily United", they want to be "Married." So now, people make articals and "studies" like the one you read in order to manipulate the media and its followers into pressuring the system to change based on false and unfounded accusations.

Marriage, true marriage, is a bond between a man and a woman. If you like, it is the bond between a female (XX Chromosome) and a male (XY Chromosome). This is the way of nature and of the world. Civil unions are something that can certainly be discussed in order to afford alternative lifestyle couples a means to "legally" bond, but it should never be equated with "marriage", regardless of any perceived tax benefit. Republicans don't filter everything in the public arena thru the prism of business and taxes, much as some libs would have you believe!

How would same sex marriage increase the budget or states economy ? Single people pay a higher rate of taxation than married couples. I think the U of C research was done by a left-wing, pro-homosexual marriage professor who has an agenda and clearly does not deal in facts.

Jeezus Squeezus they reported the equivalent component approximately Obama while he became as quickly as getting republican votes. The republicans are balloting for the democratic nominee pondering the Republican nominee is already chosen. they're regularly balloting in my opinion in accordance with who they experience has a greater threat of being crushed by technique of McCain, because of the reality they virtually evaluate interior the candidate they're balloting for, or on the grounds that they actual do not love McCain and so as that that they had prefer to teach a piece of this by utilising utilising balloting democrat interior the significant. in all likelihood they're doing it to hold the democratic considerable going even longer so as that the democrats wreck themselves and that saves McCain the hardship of doing it interior the conventional. Who knows of?

Is that why taxes are so high in Massachuesetts?

Those against gay marriage are more than one diemensional.
They are have moral views too.

By your way of think with the addition 6 million people would have help the tax rolls too and help pay for univerisal health care.
So are you going to outlaw abortion to increase the tax rolls?

the idea that somehow republicans should trumpet same sex marriage and this is pro business and for lowering taxes is one of the most absurd things ive ever heard from a liberal. business is fostered by allowing it to do what it was created to do under a lassiez fare policy. what you have stated here is clearly an apples and oranges situation and one has little to do with the other.

I live in Maryland, and I'm ashamed of this state. It's Liberal, and the Taxes here are terrible. Maryland or Ferryland which ever you wish to call it, is also not very business friendly.

One must keep in mind that the Republicans form a political base by appealing to people's backward prejudices. They need the Archie Bunkers to stay in power. This is why it is often said that the right-wing consists of the super-rich and the super-stupid.
