You should never get only 2 tires. Always get a whole set.

You don't need studded in upstate NY... I lived in NH and my E46 survived 2 seasons on non-studded snow tires.

You can stay on your current 205/60-15 size or you may choose to go thinner on 185/65-15. As long as you don't go wider, you should be okay.

But even with snow tires, because your car doesn't have ASC+T or any kind of traction/stability control, avoid sharp or high speed turns. It's easy to tailspin, even on snow tires.

Go on eBay and get a set of cheap 15" rims (I bought a separate set of BMW alloys for cheap there). Then choose your tires. tirerack.com has some good recommendations.

Please contact two places find a set of steel wheels or dinged up alloy wheels online, dealership or wheel store. Now go online with thetirerack.com. There you will find a free phone number. Studded tires are outlawed now because they damage the roads however some states still allow the old tires until they wear out. Modern tread design and better rubber make the new style tires sticky. And drive carefull out there. Yokohama tires even all season are not snow tires. as you found out.

I live in manitoba and probably get a little more snow but in a rear wheel drive vehicle you'd get better acceleration but u still steer with your front wheels and brake with all 4 so you should definitely get all 4 if you do get a lot of snow and your winter lasts 3 months or more of icy conditions get all 4 plus i'm not sure but have all 4 the same type is generally a better idea.

I am not an expert on winter tires but the best place I could find that explained tires and had the best deals on them was the tire rack. They also are the #1 tire retailer online. This link will take you directly to the winter tire section on the site and it explains alot. http://www.gozipper.com/deals/tirerack.php

Hope this answers some questions and maybe even saves you some money! -Adrian

Blizak OR A TOYO SNOW TIRE, YOU CAN SUE A 195/60/15 OR NORMAN SIZE WITH A SLIGHT PERFORMANCE HIT; A SKINNY TIRE WORKES BETTER IN THE SNOW. PERSONLY I WOULD GO FOR A SET OF Blizak BUT TOYO MAKES A GOOD SNOW TIRE TOO.

Goes in the very slippery road surface, the best use pattern trough tire, that kind has the big wheel line width in 205 is perhaps appropriate
