My Norton Internet Security 2007's subscription (expires in 30 days) is up for renewal. I have used Norton for over five years, before that I had McAffee. Earlier this year, I got a trojan on my system WHILE NORTON WAS RUNNING 24/7 IN THE BACKGROUND. When I spoke to their tech support about removing it, they informed me I would have to pay a Sr. technician $100 or more to remove it. Needless to say, I was outraged, so I searched online and found MaxSecure's Spyware Detector. I think the price was $29/$39. I installed it and it removed the trojan completely in less than 10 minutes! Since then it has been keeping my system clean. I kept Norton running as well, however. At this point, I'm wondering if I even need Norton Internet Security, the upgrade subscription or their latest product . Techies out there, what do you think? Thanks loads.

You don't have to pay to remove Norton.
Use the Norton removal tool.

The decision will be all yours. I'm using different types of Norton (AV/Internet Security/and now 360) but so far, I never experienced of getting a virus into my computer. Almost everybody said that Norton consumes RAM and slows down your computer, but so far, my computer never runs slow. It's just in short, to say, they cannot afford to buy that's why they are depending on the "free". But don't forget, free or not, the virus is always around. So if your computer got virus it's because of how your using your PC and exactly you cannot blame Norton or any protection that it did not protect your PC.
+Removing virus from your computer has different ways. You can delete it from Norton if that's you know how to do it. There is a manual/guide on how to delete virus from Norton, you only need to evaluate it by yourself. Aside from that, if you think that MaxSecure's Spyware Detector did able to removed the virus in less than 10 minutes as you said, then better use it. But remember it is a Spyware Detector and not an AV/internet security.

I'd say Norton; too; ut the problem is that when it's scanning it tends to slow down ur pc.. the Mc Afee is also good but makes it less slow. Personally i use Kaspersky Internet Security and home comp Trend Micro and both of them are really really good

Kaspersky or NOD32 are excellent alternatives to Norton.
They are both much lighter on resources, both have better support, both have much higher detection rates and they are both doing excellent on recent antivirus tests (AV-Comparatives).

They both also do security suites like your current Norton. From what I have heard, Kaspersky Internet Security is meant to be very good.
If I were you, I would uninstall Norton now and use the Norton removal tool posted above. Once uninstalled, I would try out either Kaspersky or NOD32, they both have trials so you can try them out for a month. (Don't try them out at the same time, never use more than one antivirus at a time, or they will conflict).

Just do a google search on them, they have excellent reviews.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

Apparently AVG works just fine and its free. Norton kills the memory on your comp and takes over

Norton is crap, I would like to hose the makers down with machine gun fire.

Get AVG, ZoneAlarm Firewall and Adaware.
