Yes Grumpy-originally they were a military empire but as they grew rich they became soft-then corruption started from within-a great subject the roman empire-with it's achievements and failures

It has been postulated that if the Roman empire had not collapsed, humans would now have been on mars. Not too sure about that. They were, without doubt brutal. However they were great engineers and moved technology forward. But their political system mitigated against significant progress. In a way, they were victims of their own success.
It would be enlightening to hear from those who have studied the Roman Empire in depth.

The lure of a Roman style law and order is great for day dreaming,however you are in for a rude awakening the moment you disagree with some provisions and realize that you cannot do anything about.
Democracy is messy,dirty and sometime unfair but is far better than any imposed regime.

We don't need the Romans. All we need to do is start teaching our children respect for others and the value of doing a good job, from the time they are very small. Today people neglect this very important parental obligation. If parents don't do it, then it won't happen.
