My company is having a Christmas Party like they do every year. The last 2 year, they have had a bar. Lets face it people drink. In my department there are 6 of us. We are all single guys. I am the only one with kids and I chose not to drink. I volunteered to be the designated driver. Now that I am thinking about it, I want to start a Designated Driver Program within my company. Not just for the party but for all year.

I know this sounds like a good idea but how would I go about starting it and would any one use it? Would you use it? It would not cost anything and no questions would be asked.

Dont make it too easy for your workmates to go out and irresponsibly drink they have to take some responsibility for there own care it is differnt what you are doing for the festive season and you must be commended. We ran one here in Melbourne and when my 2 youngest were just teenagers it worked for them and the local pubs always gave free non alcoholic drinks for the Designated one ~~ ~~

I think it's a great idea!

My son says that was the ONLY thing that was good about being in the Army. There was ALWAYS someone back on base to come get anyone who got carried away and over-imbibed.

They did it by having a call list they always carried with them.

So, you could put out flyers, asking for volunteers to sign up to be designated drivers or "responsible retrievers".

You can print the list of names and phone numbers on cards that will fit in wallets and purses. Then if people are going out they can invite folks from the list to join them and have fun, while not drinking, then get them home.

Or, if folks go out and get carried away, they can call down the list until they find someone available to come get them.

It's Caring of you to think of doing this for your fellow man. That's the true spirit of Christmas. Good Luck with it.

In Adelaide, we have 'Dial a Driver'
You call when you are ready to go home, and two people show up. One drives your car, and you home, and the other follows and picks up your 'driver' when you get there. There is a nominal fee for this, and you and your car get home safely. It is really popular here, but there are still too many people who take a chance on drink-driving. Stupidity!
You would be able to do this yourself, but you would need to find a co-driver. If you can arrange it, make up a flyer and put it on the notice board.

That sounds awesome! I wish more places had programs like that!!! You could have people that would be willing to be DD sign up or something and then have a rotation or just call them up before an event and make sure that one of them will show up to do it.

I really think that is a wonderful idea, I hope it works out!!
