if they knock on your door or accost you on the way out of shops does embarrasment at saying no make you hane your money over?

There are a lot of scammers out there.
And I have NO problem with saying no and I do not feel guilty nor think I am heartless because I have a very good reason for it. If only people knew what I have already done in this lifetime... but, I am not going to get into it here in Y!A.

I am very leery about charities. If they came to my door, I probably wouldn't answer it being alone all the time and if it was in a store or out in the parking lot, I'd have to know the cause. Too many crooks that aren't really collecting charity. Called scamming. It's so sad b/c I really love to give & help others & so frustrated that I can't even trust that the dude ringing the bell with the Salvation Army coat on and Santa hat may very well be a fraud. I would be shorting myself. If it was the march of Dimes or any other can at a shop that helps sick children, then I will risk some change.

The Way I see it is, I cannot give to all the charities that call, mail me, or sit by shops. I do give monthly to charities that I do know. God knows who you give to. To the people that knock on your door, don't answer unless you know who it is. If you do happen to answer, just politely say, No thank you, and shut the door.

If you mean the Salvation Army or Vets that are outside of stores, you can just smile at them and say Merry Christmas, or Have a good day. I have given to some of them, but they probably know that you have encountered many at this time of year. They are usually volunteers who stand out there for the company or agency.

I use to feel guilty if I didn't give something to everyone standing there. I know in my heart who I give to and the gifts I give to others, like a needy family. I am not expected to give to everyone. I still feel bad that I cannot give to everyone, but I do know my limits. God knows and that is all that counts.

Fortunately we live in a condo where they have to use the phone panel to call. They are not allowed in our building. If there is any charity, it has to be done by someone in the building, like Cancer, Heart, etc. Then they set up a table in the lobby and post it in the 2 elevators. We do get any awful lot in the mail and I just put them in the round file. I give to our church and a few others. I am not embarrassed to turn anyone down, even if it is in person. I prefer to do it by mail at least you know if it is honest or not.

I don't give money to any-one that knocks on the door. If they are in the street and I've never heard of them, then No. and I don't get embarrased either, if I don't want to part with my money, then I don't.

Don't give if you've never heard of them before. But if it's a savation army bell ringer or something like that, go ahead and give them your pocket change, but only if you want to. Never feel obligated to give to charity.

nope. i only give to ones i've heard of and don't try to force me to donate. the Poppy Appeal for example.
