There is a local debate over whether or not a Christmas tree should be refered to as a "Holiday" tree. I am distressed over this because I personally would NEVER refer to a menorah as a holiday candle holder or make any type of derogatory referance to ones religion or beliefs. Why is it so many communities in the U.S. are faced with such opposition during the Christmas season? The U.S. is a Christianity based nation therefore as a nation we celebrate Christmas. If I were to move to Israel, I would never try to raise opposition against Channukha nor do I believe it would be tolerated, as it shouldn't be. Why can't we celebrate and enjoy the season as each of us sees fit, without controversy?

(My references to the menorah and Israel are only examples to make my point. The opposition being faced in this community are not of Jewish origin.)

Sylvery Fae,The U.S. was founded by Christians, one nation under GOD, In GOD we trust, oh and the fact that the MAJORITY of Americans follow Christian based religions would lead me to believe that the U.S. is a Christianity based nation.

I encourage everyone to send the President and CEO of the Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce in Wesley Chapel, FLORIDA (just north of Tampa) an email about his "Holiday Tree". Their email address is below. I have also included the FOX 13 website link for a video of the story. Don't get excited - the "Holiday" tree is pathetic.

Its really sad because we are not the same America we were 30 years ago. Everything is for the immagrant not for the people who have live here. Are Country is based on Christian values and beliefs not any others . It is a Christmas Tree NOT a damn holiday tree what kind of crap is that. I swear most people don't even know why we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ the Savior!!! WE ARE AMERICAN NOT ANYTHING ELSE!!! Sometimes i wish i could go back in time we people had values and held on to them with all there might. And Cared about the American Hoildays and celebrated them instead of getting "another" day off. And don't even get me started on the laziness of people these days. We the people who still have those core values have to stand up and take a stand!!! Kids these days don't even care about a damn thing anymore because there parents gave up and let the government take over and let them decide what is right for there family. Whatever happened to "family dinners" at the table not in front of the TV? We need to shape up before someone takes over our lives!!!!
Thanks for listening.

Wow, do people really have nothing more to do than argue about what people call things?

US citizens have the natural born right to call a Christmas tree a Christmas tree. Just because it has the word "Christ" in it and it is part of a Christian tradition doesn't mean we should change the name altogether. Besides, what do other religions care what Christians call their trees? If they are opposed to saying Christmas, they are probably opposed to celebrating Christ's birth. Having a Christmas tree is part of that celebration.

So in that case, I completely agree with you.

The Christmas tree was a tradition started in Germany centuries ago, and has been a symbol of the holiday since. This country is being over run by religious fenatics who want to opress christians and their faith and everything that goes with it because it offends them and their religion. The USA was founded by christians, not jews or muslims, or hindus, or siks, or any other religious group, if you are offended by a tree then you must have deep psychological issues. The holiday is christmas, its a christmas tree, they are christmas carols, not a holiday tree or holiday carols, what next are we going to change the name of Christmas to Holiday Day!!! I mean come on, its not your religion so leave it alone, it DOES NOT CONCERN you so seriously mind you own business because you dont see christians trying stop you from celebrating hanukkah or eid al adha or any other holiday that your religion holds sacred so STOP trying to do it to us

I agree. It is very sad! Unfortunately America is beginning to turn away from it's roots. We are so demoralized. Even in public schools people are leaving out the "in God we trust" part of the pledge of allegience. If people do start calling the Christmas tree a holiday tree it will be sad but I can't do anything about it. As for me, I will always
call the tree with the star on top, symbolizing the birth of Christ, a CHRISTmas tree. Thank you very much! =)

I always think that this is a funny topic since the origins of the "Christmas Tree" are Pagan. The Christmas Tree was ursurped by the early Christians since they could not get the newly Christianized Pagans to give up all of their old Pagan ways and traditions

Fireguy, I couldn't agree more with what you said! I just don't understand why some people want to change the way others celebrate their chosen religions. It's not like Christians are putting up Christmas trees and nativity sets in other religion's places of worship.

It is getting ridicules these days. Im in Australia, and over the past month shopping centres have been trying to stop Santa from saying HO HO HO, they want them to say HA HA HA, because they think saying Ho Ho Ho is derogatory to women. As if kids understand these kind of things. Everything to do with christmas, should be left alone, it has been celebrated this way for many years and i know i am never gonna change my traditions. People should go back home if they dont want to respect our countries traditions and values and stop trying change what people believe in.

How bout a Yule tree - since that came before the Christians decided to force us to celebrate a birthday in the wrong month.
Where do you get that the US is a Christianity based nation?

It is frustrating, isn't it! I say call Christmas trees Christmas trees and if people don't like it,they don't need to look at it!! I am so tired of trying to be politically correct.
