Why people thought that the earth was squared? if ancient civilizations like Egyptians, Mayans, Aztecs and others knew a tremendous amount of information about the the composition of the universe that even in our era will be hard to investigate, they knew about planets, stars even asteroids and black holes... so if they knew it thousands of years ago, why the medieval civilizations thought that their own planet was rectangular/squared ?

it is not true that the medieval people thought the earth was flat or square unless they were particually stupid peasents. The Sea men of the day did not know about the undiscovered continents such as the americas and so on their maps they wrote "here be dragons". This has probably led to the common misconception that the medieval peoples did not know that if you continued in one direction you would eventually get back to where you had started.

Ancient people didn't know much about the universe compared to what we know.

However, they did know at least one thing, which is that the Earth is round. This was known over two thousand years ago.
