Someone asked this question the other day.
And someone asked the same question the day before that! And someone asked the same question before that, it is an endless question because of hollywood bullcrap films.

I hate hollywood bullcrap films, and The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift is one of those on top of the list.

The answer is no not really, but again, the movie "Tokyo" Drift was mostly filmed in CALIFORNIA btw. So you have a movie about Tokyo Japan filmed in California, that should be a sure sign not to believe everything you see in it.

Japanese police rely on speed cameras, not to mention they do have specialized motor squads with their own beefed up police cars and motorcycles that can and do chase whenever possible. However with all the traffic in the major cities its highly unlikly to be as stylized as you saw in that "movie".

Person below:
Double check your math:
1.6km = 1mile (not the other way around) so 180 km/h = about 111 mph

Yes, Japan is great! I never got stopped for doing more than 180km/h....because the engine simply stopped! Just come here and have fun!! But it is even better to do that in Germany on the Autobahn as the quality of the asphalt is far better and it is legal to do 300km/h or on some special race courses in Japan where you have to pay a bit but at least the asphalt is top quality!

well, i'd say that might be the smart thing for them to do esp if in a major city.

They probably let camera's deal with it.

dude they can even track you with the cams till you stop and send cops to that location in real time.

maybe they feel if you die, or cause other to die, at least you can't do it again and also set an example for others.
don't they have serious over population issues in that area anyway?

yes but the devil can pull you out of your body even if the cop can't.

They may not keep chasing you because they don't want to risk the chance of having a wreck, but they will get you after. There are cameras everywhere, so if they get your license place number then you are done.

There are no cars in Japan that can go over 200Mph ! Why is this question still asked once a day ? Much of that movie was filmed in LA.
BTW, people, 1km is 1.6 miles. So I really doubt anyone can drive at 300 Kph !
