DeeJay, I'm sorry to tell you you are very wrong. The citizens of the US are so used to the idea that you live in the 'Land of the Free' that you are easily blinded to the changes in your laws that simply make a nonsense of that claim. The same goes for us in the UK. Were used to being the 'Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free', yet our civil rights are under unprecedented attack by our government in the name of 'Security'.
One of your presidents, Benjamin Frankin, said "Those who would trade freedom for security, deserve neither"
If you want to see what a free country is like, look at Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Australia...
The US talks a great talk on freedom and justice and democracy, and you can all be very proud of that. But it only counts if your government and judiciary follow the talk with the associated behaviour.
There is compelling evidence that you do NOT live in a police state. There is also compelling evidence that your government has put into place 9 of the 10 required conditions of a fascist state (as defined by the experience of European Fascism of the 20th Century). It is important to remember that a police state is not the same as a dictatorship.
A good book about this, from a respected source (not some internet whacko) is linked to below. (the amazon link).
There is an interview with the author at the other (guardian) link.
[edited later]
Benjamin Franklin wasn't a president (thanks, 'Old Scout', below). My apologies. In the UK we obviously don't learn the names of your presidents and I confess I assumed a famous American from history would have been a President. I'll had a good read of his Wikipedia entry.
The fact remains that while you are not a police state, you are sadly not close to being the most free country in the world, which is a shame, because you have all the institutions and the constitution to allow it, and you all certainly want it to be that way.
I'm disappointed that someone gave me a thumbs down for this (before the edit). A case of someone not liking the message and shooting the messenger, methinks.

Where else, but in a police state would you find millions of illegal immagrants riding around town in their new cars, that they bought with the new money that they earned at their new jobs, in the police state that they call their new home?
Not to fear, the police are contentrating their forces on the streets, where they drive around waiting for someone to violate a traffic law, so they can check ID's, and apprehend these millions at a rate of about five per day. If it where anything but a police state, they would actually be out of there police state cars, looking for, and apprehending these...people. But, that would require the police to actually do detective work, like on tv, which is what most people in America do, watch it all on tv....

No, people here have a lot of freedoms and they are not persecuted for having a different opinion. I mean, look at Phelps and the Westboro Baptist people; they are not being persecuted for praising the deaths of American servicemen or saying that "God Blesses IEDs" and by the same token, the Patriot Guard is not persecuted for shielding the grieving families of fallen soldiers by standing as a buffer between the families and the protesters.
So, in short; no; this is not a police state, at least not in the fashion of East Germany in the 60s and 70s or Nicaragua in the 80s.

The Isle of Skye is unquestionably decrease than a million,000. in case you swap up everywhere interior the united kingdom with the point of in simple terms residing off the land, they are going to placed you on the subsequent flight decrease back residing house. There are a number of of suitable places by using the worldwide the place you are able to pass to lead a much less complicated existence. in case you prefer to handle complicated cases, why are you no longer thinking Africa or Asia? too a number of of a complicated time?

Try reading some history; get a little perspective from Nazi Germany and Communist Russia as well as Iraq under Saddam and Iran today.
Possibly the most free state in history.

If we truly lived in a Police state weirdos of every strip would not be able to have postings on the Internet "proving" that we are living in a police state.

I didn't open the link; as a rule, I don't do so on YA. But to answer your question: I wouldn't characterize the US as a "police state" but rather, a "lemming state." For all of our alleged freedoms, the American populace generally (with only occasional minor protest) follows whatever politicians and the corporate media tell them to follow, without any further research or investigation.

No. I have yet to see any compelling evidence that we are. If you have evidence, I'd love to see it.
(If we really did live in a police-state, do you think you'd be allowed to even post the question on the Internet?)
That link you posted is obvioulsy from a left-wing source. Left-wingers always think they're in a police-state.

No we don't. We're just fine. The closest thing we had to a police state was when Clinton and Reno were running the show.
Ben Franklin was never a President, he was just a great guy and a real stud.

Are you a dirty, lousy Communist? Some routine fact-checking clearly reveals the source you cited to be communist affiliated
The site you linked showed the name of a known Marxist, Norman D. Livergood
Here is some of his "work":
