even if those view differ from yours? or would you rather live in a country where everyone falls in line and follows and believes what the government says, and if they do have doubts keep it to themselves...for the sake of putting up a a solid united front? Given a choice between those two situations only (no other), which do you think serves the nation better in the long run and is healthier for freedom?

thorgirl, what are you talking about? sounds like you are kind of saying you would prefer to live where there are limits of dissent. I gave you 2 choices, freedom to dissent or not. Sounds like you are leaning not.

to the rest of you who inject the USA in this, you are avoiding the question. We are all americans living here. My question again was given the choice between right to dissent or none at all, which do you choose? Dont tell me you choose you USA, tell me that you would choose the country that allows dissent no matter what cause thats what is better for freedom in the long run, or ...tell me that you choose the country that bans dissent against government and will jail you for it cause thats what you think is better for freedom in the long run cause we need to present a united front. Its pretty straight forward, you are avoiding the question.

dead marxist, and intellectual discussion is good to develop your mind and broaden your horizons. Again, americans love america...no one doubts that. So you are not contributing anything to this discussion saying you love america. Just tell me whether you would prefer to live in a country that protects all dissent because its good for freedom or a country that bans dissent against government with the reason being that its important to project a united front to all who are watching.

really now! talk about asking in a very troll sense! the USA has been King of this since the second president. Fist fights in Congress and even a Duel between Hamilton and Burr! What you are really asking is not healthy by any accord. could you perform under constant negative reaction? no a healthy amount of question and checks and balance is NOT constant dissent.

Are you asking if we would like to live in a government controlled communistic country like China or North Korea.... or a Theocratic controlled country such as many in the middle east.... or a socialistic country with a dictator who dresses like a pimp and loves to take away things like Venezuela...
or perhaps a corrupt goverment controlled country like Mexico where you really cant assemble unless perhaps you buy off the policia..
I think that being able to dissent is pretty much what the USA was founded on.. you know dissenting from England at the time... and if they allow illegal immigrants to dissent who arent even citizens in the USA it cant get much more accomodating... although im not sure if that serves the nation better in that example.

thats an unrealistic question my good fellow. Every country has both of those, and some are more on one side. Our country comes closest to the first scenario you stated. I would go with the first.

To quote Patrick Henry....

'I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!'

Each law restricting the rights of freemen (all peoples are free) is another link in the chain of tyranny.
