Is the a small test I can run? (I'm using XP)

What are programs called that can tell hackers about keystrokes ? Where can I find out about them and learn to detect them ?

Thanks

As long as your XP is up to date with all the latest patches, and as long as you dont install everything you see on the net, you should be safe.
Get windows defender, it will tell you alot about what doesnt, and what does, belong inside your XP.

Your firewall should tell you if anyone attempts this.

As to keyloggers, be very careful about opening emails - thats the general way to get them on your machine. Use Mailwasher to precheck uncertain mail.

look for any suspicious files in the add/remove programs list, change all passwords that gain access to your computer, and you should be fine
