My wife had her handbag stolen last night in Birmingham city centre. Fortunately there was not much cash in the bag, but the main concern she has is her mobile phone, which she says "had her whole life inside".

Forgive me if this obvious but I need to know, once the phone has been replaced by the insurance company, will she be able to recover her stored phone numbers which had been saved to the SIM card?

Unfortunately there is no way that the new SIM card will have all her numbers on it.

As a stocking filler for her check out the Argos website item number 5464469. It allows you to back up your contacts to your computer.

The good news is that the stolen SIM card can be barred and also the phone by the IMEI number so nobody else can use it.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to give me a shout.

The quick answer is not any...But To check your mobile mobilephone's serial number, key within the following for your cellphone:- famous person hash zero six hash ( * # zero 6 # ) A 15 digit code will show up on the monitor. This number is certain to your handset. Write it down and preserve it someplace riskless. Must your mobile get stolen, which you could phone your carrier supplier and provides them this code. They'll then be able to block your handset so even if the thief alterations the Sim Card your mobilephone will probably be totally vain. You more commonly is not going to get your mobile back, however as a minimum you realize that whoever stole it, can not use/promote it either. If each person did this, there would be no factor in stealing cellular telephones.

I would say it was highly unlikely. Those numbers are stored on the Sim card so that if you change your phone at any stage you can transfer your phone book into the new phone. It saves you having to re-input all of the addresses again.

Because my eldest son had his phone stolen i copied all of my numbers into my electronic data bank so that if it happens to me at least i will still have my numbers. It was a pain to transfer each one to start with but now i just add them as i get new ones.

Good Luck.

No sorry...if the numbers are on the SIm..then they are lost forever.
I have a spare SIM that I back up all my numbers onto for times like this...It happened to me a while ago and I learned my lesson the hard way.

I just pop in the SIM, load all the numbers onto the phone..put the new SIM in and copy to SIM card....Now i've numbers on the new card and still on the old one...

Sorry...but she'll have to go collecting numbers again.
