Social workers form relationships with people. As adviser, advocate, counsellor or listener, a social worker helps people to live more successfully within their local communities by helping them find solutions to their problems. Social work also involves engaging not only with clients themselves but their families and friends as well as working closely with other organisations including the police, NHS, schools and probation service.
There is a specific status associated with the job title "social worker". Social workers are professionally qualified staff who assess the needs of service users and plan the individual packages of care and support that best help them.

Because they have a passion for social justice in this country. My family just went through the process of becoming a certified foster family, and I've dealt with more social workers this year than I have in my whole life. Something that I've learned is how much we need great ones, ones who really love their work. Social work is extremely important, and the workers give a voice to those who usually can't speak up for themselves well, like abused children or neglected elderly persons.

Some people have the want to help others in need, as that is what we are intended for after all. It can pay pretty decent but I think most people do it for the fulfillment in their own lives and also to help others through theirs.

To help the elderly, disabled, or mentally handicapped. It's a very fulfilling job, you feel such pride and well-being knowing that everyday you are helping someone who would other wise be lost and facing many hardships without you.
