hmmmm.
I'd say time machine. I'm more interested in the future, because we might develop the tech to travel the universe ourselves.
and if we don't then I'll go back in time and buy stock in microsoft google and yahoo

This a great question, and because of this, a very difficult one to answer. But, here goes...............
If aliens arrived and gave us a choice to do either of the two things, exploring the Universe would no longer fall into one of the categories to choose from, as we seek to know what is beyond Earth based, in part, on finding out if other beings besides us, do infact, exist. This will have been proven true by the alien's visit.
So, travel in both directions of time would be my choice. There is just a tremendous amount of knowledge that could be acquired from having such a device, and it would be fun as well. :)

omg best question ever. i cant decide. i could never decide. aliens disprove a lot, and a lot in history. humanity is beautiful and a time machine would let me see it all. .. i have no IDEA OMGGG
