Before his meetings with the Spirits of Christmas, Scrooge has shut the world and humanity out of his heart, has closed himself off from other hearts.
Marley's Ghost, to begin with, warns Scrooge that he is bound up in the products of his own selfishness and coldness, and that he may expect after death to regret forever being unable to help those in care and need.
The Ghost of Christmas Present not only shows Scrooge some of the causes for his choices in life, but also a chance to understand the love he has missed and the joy he might have known.
The Ghost of Christmas Present shows Scrooge that even the poorest in goods or circumstances, by allowing the spirit of the season to enter their homes and hearts, are blessed by love. At the same time, he warns Scrooge that if some circumstances are not changed, death may come even for the innocent, and chides Scrooge for earlier thinking himself a worthy judge of who should live or die in the world, who knew so little of what is of real value to God and the world.
Finally, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come shows Scrooge that unless the Present is amended, only death, darkness and chaos will be Scrooge's fate, and of those near to him.

In short, Scrooge is given a triple revelation by the spirits: he is reminded of his own humanity, the value of the love and care within the spirit of Christmas that upholds humanity, and a warning that he must change his way of thinking, seeing and most importantly, acting, in order to not only to preserve, but redeem his life and soul.

For Scrooge, these visitations work the miracle---he awakes on Christmas morning, redeemed in heart, and resolved to make amends, to live, to love, to care, and to be someone who helps embody the spirit of Christmas all year round.
