A few good men.
But some would argue that there function requires more discipline, and anyone who would be a marine has that certain ego quality that the marines feed into.
I say any soldier, be they cook, truck driver, NBC, Pac Clerk, seaman airman marine or army soldier equally deserve respect.
Each have a different function, an the chip on a marines soldier doesnt come from them truly being the best soldier, but just an ego and discipline that is created out of necessity for front line combat.
As far as the best soldiers, some would argue that one pilot who could destroy and entire batallion with the depression of a few buttons is a better soldier for his training and amount of damage he can dish out.
Some would argue tht the sniper who could take out a general from 1 1/2 miles away is a better soldier because his one shot one kill can inflict almost as much damage as a pilot.
Or the tank operator who takes out platoons at a time with his power.

Every soldier has a different function in battle, and many instead of trying to prove how one is superior to all others....
Is it good enough to say they all deserve respect and admiration for fighting to uphold the ideals of The Constitution of The United Staes?

Or do we really need to get into which is the best service?

Apparently, the word is that the Marines train harder. I have a son who joined the Marines and a daughter in the Army. I am equally proud of them and the United States Armed Forces are the best in the World.
I hold our soldiers in the highest regard. All of them, no matter what branch. They deserve respect from all of us.

I'm a former (11H) Army Airborne Ranger. This is basically a groundpounder who learned to use what is called a TOW Gun. A fairly large anti-tank, wire guided missile. We did everything that 11Bs do but just did a little extra training during AIT. I have met few jarheads that fall into the same classification as we consider ourselves. All 3 branches that actually train frontline troops have a different way of training and viewing themselves. I don't think any one branch is better since on the lines it is the same goal sought by all. There are just different ways of getting things done. Some of us have extensive training in other areas also but we usually try to pick things that further our chosen MOSs. Airborne, Rangers and Special Forces are even more highly specialized. Seals and Delta Force are the Navy and Marines Special Warfare groups. Every troop who comes from these areas of combat training is ready to rob, borrow, steal and/or kill. And we do it well! Every branch has a specialty in some area except Air Force in my opinion. They will NEVER measure up to what we are capable of!! Hope this helps you! Even though I call them jarheads there is still a brotherly love for our fellow soldiers regardless of which branch other than AF. One of my former classmates is a Major in the AF who claims to be a war hero. I'm pretty sure that he put in some bogus papers for whatever got medals for. That is something that happens a lot. The real heroes of battle are face to face where the metal meets the meat. We are immediately able to see what happens when we do something. It is a grim scene but at least I know I took that persons life and will have to answer for it in the afterlife. BTW dukefe??? our weapons were with us 99% of the time. There is a lot more to it than BRM. There are a few days that we only carried them along but saying what you did is a lie. ALL INFANTRY, regardless of branch is expected to know how to use, repair, clean and accurately inflict damage with these weapons even if it is just the empty rifle and bayonet!!

Of course I agree that any soldier deserves equal respect. That is, any soldier that is doing what they should be doing.
I do believe that Marines are tougher, better trained, and more ready to lay it all on the line than any other soldier from the Army, Navy, etc.
I don't believe you can compare the likes of Snipers and Pilots, as they both serve very different roles.
Bottom line: Any person that enlists in the any service deserves ultimate respect from everyone because they are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Fact is, Marine training is more intense and their standards are higher than in the Army. Which is not to say that all Marines are 'better' than all soldiers, but that's how the average falls out.
And while everyone in the Army is trained in BRM (basic rifle marksmanship), many of them never actually pick up or train with a weapon after that. In the Marines it's an explicit expectation, maintained through training, that *ANYONE* is a rifleman first and may need to put that ability to use at any time.

You're right with everything you just said and I salute your rational thinking.
They are one. They fight in combat, they die in combat. So how can there be a difference. I think the great wall memorial speaks for that.
The ground troops depended on the Air Force, the Air Force depended on the ground troops right along with the Marines. They depended on each other. Let's not forget all the nurses that all troops, Army, Air Force, Marines depended on.
All our troops are well disciplined. They have to be. They are like a "well oiled machine." With out discipline what do you have ..... caucus.
All our troops fight under one Flag ... The United States of America. I'm proud of all the men and women who fight/fought and died for our country.
When you said 1Shot - 1 Kill, we have a coffee mug here with that saying on it, along with a few others with different sayings. It never occured to me that there was/is any difference. I'm happy we (husband & I) can drink coffee together.
Very Good - Well Said

Yes, it is more than good enough.
On the other hand, some forms of service are more demanding than others.
The Marine Corps is very demanding. I had the opportunity to work with many Marines and their service experience was much more arduous than mine.
After I worked with them I've often said that my hat is off to anyone that did that.
The Army Rangers are the same way. Every branch has their hard core units.
My impression of the Marine Corps is that they're 99% hard core units, which is distinct from the other branches.

Any one of our military is the best at what they do But for all out top of the line combat action I would have to put the Navy Seals at the top of the list.

No we don't need to get into who is the best service! Each is trained to do HIS job as best he can. My great nephew is the best marine snipper since WW11broke all the records since WW11 and He doesn't even talk about who is best!! To him they are all his brothers and sisters! You got that??
