...at an extremely low, dark point in your life and then have someone enter it whose very presence brings back the light and the optimism you thought you might never see again?
I recently have.

Yes. The year 2007 has been the darkest year in my adult life. As you know, many things have happened this year that have caused me to change and grow as a person, ranging from my best friend's death to my recent "conversion" to atheism. I have endured more mentally this year than I ever have before. I was starting to think, due to my circumstances at home, that it was unhealthy for me to have so many questions about religion and life. I was starting to think something was wrong with me mentally. That is what the person I live with would lead you to believe, because it is easier to do that than face reality.
Someone new in my life taught me that being inquisitive is good and healthy. Someone told me they think I'm brilliant. Someone made me feel good again for being exactly who I am. Someone restored my faith in people and in my future! It feels SO good to be optimistic again. I'm back to being ME. Life doesn't have to suck, after all.

I'm sure it has happened, but I can't think of a specific person. Some friends are always uplifting to be around. I try to be optimistic and don't get depressed too often. If I feel really down, the thing that helps me the most is praying.
I'm glad to hear you found someone to relight your optimism.

Aww, that's awesome Furious. :-)
In my case, it's been more like an unexpected re-entering of someone, whose presence and way of being inspires me on an emotional, mental and spiritual level.
I think that it can be liberating to let one's walls down and be vulnerable sometimes, which I had closed myself to since the beginning of this year, but as you expressed, someone comes along and brightens one's world in a beautiful way.
I'm grateful to have come across such a person.

Yes. I'm currently dealing with a situation like that right now.
Cause I am very much in love with him, and he doesn't know it.

I am the reverse:
I enter other's lives and bring in only shadows and pessimism. I'm cute, though. ;)
