Iron Butterfly wrote and sang the song in 1967. Alot of people say it was the first 'metal song'. I don't know, though.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was supposed to be 'In The Garden of Eden'. Everyone was all too stoned to remember what it really was. So the guitar player just put that together off the real name of the song. The original length is about 17 minutes. There is a shorter version about 3 min. long.

I think they are white, .. I am not exactly sure of their background. The song is great, though.

Happy holidays.

Okay, from memory the best I can do is:

The Band was Iron Butterfly, of course. I believe the album was originally recorded in 1967. I don't remember the lead singer's name, but they were teenagers when they made the album.

The lead singer had too much to drink before they did the actual recording, so "In the Garden of Eden" became "In a Gadda Da Vidda."

The best I can remember from the pictures from the original vinyl album, they were all white guys. I would check it out, but I left all my vinyl at the ex wife's house! (Oh well.)

It was allegedly a stoned mumbled translation of In The Garden of Eden
Iron Butterfly did the original and my friend Frank had the annoying habit of doing the drum solo on the back in my chair in French class
My answering of this question from memory disproves the old saying that if you remember the 60's you weren't there

I also have a concern): The Beatles - The Beatles Odyssey and Oracle - The Zombies Nefertiti - Miles Davis Spirit - Spirit newborn Is Father to the guy - Blood, Sweat & Tears In C - Terry Riley The comfortable gadget - comfortable gadget The Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding in seek of the lost Chord - The Moody Blues talk Like a newborn - Herbie Hancock

The original title was to be In the Garden of Venus, not Eden. The most likely story (there are several) of the title was that one of the band members wrote down the name while drunk and they preferred it to the original title. The slurring of the title in the recorded song was intentional, not accidental.

Iran Butterfly. The guitar player wrote it. I belief Eric Braniff was his name. They were white boys from Southern California. I dont know what their ethnicity was. It really isnt very important. The song was supposedly a take off on the phrase "In The Garden Of Eden" or some such.

The song was written by keyboardist/lead singer Doug Ingle. Originally, the song was 17 minutes long and took up the entire B-side of their album of the same name.
