Yes, with a very recent law enacted by the parliament, now a girl living with a man even without marriage has almost all the rights as a legally wedded wife.

The Supreme Court has clearly said that there is no bar or restrictions on a unmarried couple to live together. It said that the law permits unmarried women and man to live together without any legal fear.

There is no specific law giving any legal right to a lady having living in relationship with a man. What the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India & other High Courts in India have held in various judgments that a considerable long staying together of a lady & a man may be considered them to be married, if they specifically don't have any particular proof of marriage, but have been recognized as husband & wife in the society for all purposes, what all legal rights such a lady can claim will be matter of facts & circumstances for which she look forward to such legal rights. In one such case a lady who was living with a married man, who later on got divorce from his wife & after some years even left this lady was given right to claim maintenance from this man by the court. As I had mentioned in your previous question too that as far providing monthly maintenance to any such lady or children born out of such relationship is not a big issue for the Courts in India, what is more importance the 'Inheritance Rights' to such person on the property of such a man after his death. In such cases the Courts will always shy off while allowing any such Inheritance Right to such person as that will be effecting the legal rights of other legal heirs of such person, where as providing mere monthly maintenance is a small issue for which legal rights of other legal relatives during his lifetime & legal heir after his death in no way get effected legally. This consideration weighs in the mind of the judges deciding such issues. Mind you in India government of India has not enacted any Statute/law with regard to living in partners which you can find in other countries. Every one should first read & understand the essence of any of the Court pronouncements/judgments before quoting these any where.
