Depends on city, town, location, services available (gas, water, electric), value of neighborhood, etc.
That is based on going rates of the area. Either look at other places for sale to get an idea or talk to a realtor, they should know.
I am shopping for land to build on but in the hills. From my searches I see land in the city, plots. I've seen them go for $1k to $30k. All depends on those famous words... location, location, location.

Well, 2 acres in Nebraska can cost a few thousand dollars. In Los Angeles it can cost millions.
Give at least a general location, and people will be able to give you a better idea.

How long is a piece of string? It all depends upon the area you are choosing? Is it up and coming? Does it have potential? Will the area increase in value in the future?

Depends on where it is. In the boondocks of Tennessee, it might cost $100,000. In Palo Alto, California, it will cost in excess of $5 million.

It is impossible to answer this without knowing where you are. A local real estate agent would better be able to answer that question for you.
