What's with the Ears in Diablo II?

i'm a sorc. and i've collected a few of them but i don't know what they're for

You mean players ears? Its just a trophy. It shows the players name

There is also a "String of Ears" but thats a special equipment item commemorating when Blizzard got rid of ears.
