I would like to take acting lessons with my friend sometimes during January. At one point we went to HB Studios, but have decided not to go back there. I'm living in NJ and she's in NY. So my question is really, is there a place, or places in NJ which are close by to NY that have decent acting lessons. What are the names of some decent places in NY that also have acting lessons? Some places overcharge, and don't offer enough. It's not always easy to judge by a website, so any help from anyone once involved in lessons would be really great. Thanks so much.

Visit The Drama Book Shop in New York (250 W. 40th St.). They sell Backstage, a weekly newspaper with lots of ads for acting classes. Also, on the front counter near the cash register, you'll probably find plenty of fliers, postcards, and other materials announcing various classes and workshops.

Some acting schools require you to audition for their classes, and they don't accept everybody who applies. And some may expect you to make a commitment for more than just a few lessons in January.

The NJ School of Dramatic Arts (www.njactors.org) offers a full acting program. We have 7 different levels of classes in acting in addition to 3 levels of film & tv class plus improv, tv commercials, musical theatre... We are also a 5 minute walk from the Bloomfield, NJ train station which is part of the Metro Direct system linking Penn Station, NYC to NJ.
