If you want a really good book that will make you think, I recommend Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood.
If you want a really funny book, read Big Trouble by Dave Barry.
If you want a tear jerker, read The Green Mile, by Stephen King.
Happy Reading!

"Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon
She has a series of 6 books starting with Outlander. They will make you cry and laugh and you won't be able to put it down after the first 50-60 pages and you will run right out to the library and/or bookstore to get the others in the series because you will just HAVE to know what happens to these characters that you have fallen in love with. They live, love, laugh, cry, raise children, and grow old together and also grow as characters. It is an adventurous, sexy, romantic, historical novel and I have read it 12-15 times and each time I find something new because with each re-read, even though I know what is going to happen, I can't wait to get to those parts of the book and I miss things. You will have to re-read it again because you will do the same.
good luck and happy reading (if we ever hear from you again because you won't be able to come up for air to do anything else once you start reading it)
and then you will want to discuss it with other like minded Gabaldon lovers and there is a website where we do just that:

What about expanding your horizens beyond that kind of book? If you want to, try John Steinbeck, John Irving, Tom Wolfe (especially Bonfire of the Vanities and I am Charlotte Simmons). If you want a book that makes you think , it should have some issues that are not black and white.
If you'd prefer not too get into novels with the more graphic details of human life, how about either Mauve Binchy or Rosemunde Pilcher. They're both really entertaining without anything awful happening, but they do bring up a few things to think about.. Hope this help.

Go to Amazon.com and search:
"Lost from Atlantis Book 1" - Book 2 is going to be out in the next 6 weeks or so, Book 3 is written and in editing and will be out sometime in the next few months.
"Death by MURDER David Lindsay" - you have to search that way or it won't come up. There's lots of sex in that one.
"Super Spaghetti"
And the best part is, for now, they're all FREE. You can read them with Kindle Unlimited - if you don't have Kindle Unlimited Google how to get a free trial, and all those books are free. They can be read online, with a free Kindle phone app, or on a Kindle.

I am typically not much of a reader, but I was given a book that I couldn't hardly put down. It is called "The Prodigal Comes Home" by Michael English. It is based on a true story of his life. It is written very well and teaches important life lessons. I highly recommend this one.

Elie Wiesel's Night. Saddest book ever, not very romantic though.
Maybe try Love in the Time of Cholera, very romantic.

Before reading the details of your question Nicholas Sparks came to mind so I'm glad you mentioned his books. All of his books are great really and any one of them will touch your heart. If you're looking for girly girl books Candice Bushnell is also a great author.

I don't know if you're into history, but I know a great book that will bring tears to your eyes quickly! You should check out "Night" by Eli Wiesel. Eli is a survivor of the holocaust and in this book he talks about his life in the death camp. I don't know about you, but that book really inspired me. =]

My favorite book of all time is Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Zafon. It's a beautiful mystery/romance that was originally written in Spanish, so the language is beautiful, even in translation. Give it a try!

This one will make you think and warm your heart... but will probably not make you cry.
But if you are ready to think and enjoy the friendship of a young teen and his little preschool sister, this will do it.
It's a free read... "Gospel Enigma and the Young Heretics" It's at the top of the list at New Free Books.
