You never learn for certain. It is assumed that it had something to do with her having casual sex but it is not stated. It almost came out when she was about to have sex with the bartender but she found out he already knew she had AIDS and she clammed up.

She says that she went to a bar feeling lonely and took a guy home.. (I think it was a musician..but I'm not positive as I haven't watched in awhile).. As I recall she said it's the only impulsive thing she'd ever done.
I think she says it after the bartender tries to take her home.. but once again.. I can't be positive as I haven't watched in awhile..
