No your mills buddy cannot die. I have been to members houses on millsberry who have not signed on for 3+ years and their buddies are just fine. My mom hasn't signed into her account in over 2 years and I visit her buddy from time to time (she forgot her password)
So no your buddy cannot die. But if you have a buddy I would try to keep it healthy but if you don't nothing will happen and you can still play all the games and shop and stuff.

I think if you didn't feed them or left them alone for a long time they might.
My friend Melissa's Millsberry died right when she logged in to the site.
