Yes, you can fire a public defender, but it's going to be hard to do it again, because if you do it a lot the prosecution is going to argue that it shouldn't be allowed because you are just changing attorneys to drag things out.

you can fire a pd and i would have to be for a good cause and not just because you do not like him you have to hav soild proof that he is not doing his job to defend you and that he is incompetint in this case. but i do not know how offten and how many chances youget till the judge says you go to prision and you are not knowing what hit you. jk but when it is the pd you pretty much are stuck because you are not paying for the services being provided and beggers cant be choosers!!!!

Under certain circumstances, yes.
However, the court would need to hear 'why', and agree that it's necessary.
RARELY will a court allow more than one change.
"Gideon" guarantees an indigent defendant the right to a court appointed attorney. It does NOT guarantee him the right to the attorney of his choice.
