Because traditionally women have played the role of prostitute, either in the home or outside the home. It's acceptable to them to flaunt for cash because culturally it has been acceptable for women to prostitute themselves for thousands of years. Feminine pride and self esteem is often based on sex. A woman's worth is in her sex, either through pleasure or reproduction. Women who work in the sex industry, Hooters being one step up from a strip club, are no different than 'housewives' and 'stay at home' moms who are whores in their own right. Sure, these days such women choose to be at home or work in a bar showing off their breasts, but does choice or the illusion of choice really make one less of a prostitute? I think not.

A lot of you make it sound like we work there because we're whores.
I worked at Saks before Hooters (I moved and there wasn't a Saks where I moved) as a "Men's Contemporary Specialist" and there was the same amount of flirting involved when I worked there... I just wore more clothing.
I work at Hooters because it's a fun job and good money. They pay me to be chatty, sing, and dance (the only other job I had where I could do this was when I was a camp counselor). I can honestly say that I look forward to going to work every day because it's always something new. For the most part, the customers are really friendly and easy to talk to.
So, that would be my motivation to work there (I'm a college kid... I have tuition to pay!).

The first assumption after encountering this type of curiosity should be explaining that their circumstances, especially in terms of financial difficulties, lead them to work in those kind of places because such careers as the Hooters girls and other strip girls make relatively higher salary than how hard and long those employees at Hooters are required to work. In other words, it allows them to earn lots of money much more easily than other labors do.
But the second reason I want to discuss is based on their psychological characteristics. I believe there are so many women who naturally and autonomously want to work in those places in such atmosphere. There are women who enjoy mingling with other men that they've never seen before, and also who enjoy the short term and easy and cheap relationships with various numerous men. That's just how they are living their lives and how their psychological and mental state are formed. In this case, I think as long as they find joy and achievement in their job, it's just fine except that they're damaging their family's reputation and possibly the women's dignity as well by encouraging men to perceive women in certain way like the objectified sexuality of Hooters Girls.

aside from the obvious financial aspect, i think women get a sense of power and confidence about their bodies that is otherwise not there. some girls' self esteem is based entirely on body image, and a place like Hooters, where image is emphasized, boosts one's ego and sense of feminine pride.

Here in Vegas, the Hooter's girls and stripers make darn good money. If I wasn't self conscious about my body, I'd do it!

Money, they think it's fun... I am sure there are more. One of the main ideals of feminism is recognizing that not all women are the same and they are capable of making their own choices. No one has to understand their motivation except them.

They are probably doing it more for the money than anything else. They're not there for the men and the inane comments they've probably heard thousands of times already.

THey like the money, they like the attention. They enjoy the job. You might as well ask why some men want to work as Chippendale's dancers.

because although it is a long time since Mary Wolstonecraft, women's bodies are focused upon at the neglect of their minds. They grow up gilding the cage they are in.

They money is good, it requires nothing but basic people skills and, according to that sort of culture, a "good body."
