divide. x^2 - 64y^2/5x^2 + 40 divided by (x^2 - 8xy)

solve by using quadratic formula. 6x^2 - 5x = 8

Find the x-intercepts. y = x^2 - 5x -2

Let m = x^2 - 64y^2
n = 5x^2 + 40y
k = x^2 - 8xy

Now,

k = x(x - 8y)
m = (x + 8y)(x - 8y)
n = 5(x^2 + 8y)

(m/n)/k = m/kn
= (x + 8y)(x - 8y)/5x(x - 8y)(x^2 + 8y)
= (x + 8y)/5x(x^2 + 8y)

6x^2 - 5x - 8 = 0

x = [5 +/- sqrt (25 + 192)]/12
x = (5 +/- sqrt 217)/12

You just set y = 0 and solve the quadratic equation:

x^2 - 5x - 2 = 0
x = [5 +/- sqrt (25 + 8)]/2
x = [5 +/- sqrt 33]/2

The x - intercepts are:
([5 + sqrt 33]/2, 0) and ([5 - sqrt 33]/2, 0)

1) Instead of dividing by (X^2-8xy), multiply by 1/(x^2 -8xy)

factor what you can: x^2 - 64y^2 = (x+8y)(x-8y)
5x^2 +40 = 5 (x^2 + 8) (this would make more sense if the 40 was 40x
x^2 - 8xy = x(x-8y)

now it is (x+8y)(x-8y) times 1 divided by ( 5(x^2 + 8) x(x-8y)

cancel out (x-8y) on top and bottom leaves

numerator = x+8y denominator = 5x (x^2 +8)

2) quadratoc formula = -b plus or minus sq root(b^2 -4ac) all divided by 2a where a = coefficient of X^2 b = coefficient of x and c = number in your case , a = 6 b = -5 c=-8 (equation needs to b e written in a form where all the numbers are on one side of the equal sign and it all equals 0

so equation is 6x^2 - 5x - 8 = 0

= (5 plus or minus sq root of 217) all divided by 12

x-intercepts are when y = 0 use quadratic equation

= approx 10.744div by 2 = 5.372 (approximately)
