lmao, wow, I did not even know this guy existed and he got 4 points tonight. Damn. But seriously, aren't you tired of all the comparisons to Gretzky? Crosby is a great player, but he's no Gretzky (at least yet). And who the hell is John Tavares?!!? I don't even KNOW him and people are already comparing him to Gretzky. It's pretty silly if you ask me.

Chris and Haley: You're telling ME to go to bed?? It's 12:09 AM in Denver, which means it's 2:09 AM in Toronto and TB!! So, why don't YOU guys go to bed!?!? LOL

Haley, I think I'd make a great scout! I really want to be one, I'd love to have some kind of job in hockey.

People talk about Tavares because he broke Gretzky's goal scoring record for 16 yr olds by 2. I don't put a whole lot of stock into it because it was Tavares' 2nd year in the OHL, while Gretzky was a rookie.

As for Byfuglien.............he's an excellent player. he's played a few games at left wing for Denis and in the end that may be where his strength lies. He's certainly shown a lot of offensive flair so far in his career, but he needs to work on his defense. There have been several times he has chosen to play the puck this year and got burnt big time. He'll learn

Byfuglien is by no means the next Gretzky. He's not even a forward. Not saying he's a bad player, but he's no Gretz. He just had a great night tonight. It's getting a little bit old with the Gretzky comparisons, but I think it's inevitable that people will always be compared to Gretzky until somebody surpasses him as the greatest of all time.

As for John Tavares, he looks VERY talented. He is a 17 year old playing for the Oshawa Generals in the OHL. Why he's so hyped: The usual minimum age to be drafted into the OHL is 16, but the OHL gave Tavares "exceptional player" status and allowed him to be drafted (1st overall) at age 14. He scored 45 goals as a 15 year old in the OHL playing against guys up to 19 years old. The reason he is being compared to Gretzky is because last season he finished with 72 goals, breaking Gretzky's record for the most goals by a 16 year old. He finished 2nd in the OHL in scoring as a 16 year old to Patrick Kane (the #1 pick in the NHL draft), and also won the OHL MVP award and was named CHL player of the year. Obviously it's still a little early to call him the next Gretzky, but he is clearly and extraordinary talent and has been very impressive so far.

John Tavares is the guy who scored 72 goals in the OHL last year. During Wayne Gretzky's best season in the OHL he had 70 goals. Therefore it's inevitable that people are comparing him to Gretzky. That's not to say he is definitely the next one, but if you break one of Gretzky's scoring records people are going to take not.

However there are people who will tell you Steve Stamkos is just as good as John Tavares. I think the Kings made a great pick in Wayne Simmonds. He may not have the flashy stats, but he is a very gritty hockey player who can score goals. Brad Marchand is another guy who didn't go high in the draft, but I think will have some impact in the NHL. In any case it won't be long before these guys can show their stuff in the world juniors.

Only knew him when the Hawks came to Nashville and noticed the name.. First one --Dustin-- average name.. Last--Byfuglien-- something I just coughed up..
Had an awesome night with the "natural" making Bryzgalov look like Sponge Bob was in net.. Got it in the first in a 5min 29 sec span-- impressive; but no Gretzky yet.. Tired of comparisons?? You bet..
As far as Tavares, he will undoubtedly be the #1 pick when ever he gains the eligibility be it the next draft or the year after (still some question there).. But this guy DEFINITELY has some serious skills..

You can stay up; I'm going to bed....LOL...

LITY - Completely agree with you about Byfuglien. I was at the game last night. When they are on the attack he does a great job of getting open, has a great snap shot too. He is versatile enough where Denis can put him in the wing postion. This kid is no stranger to scoring either. He had 16 goals and 28 assists in 63 games for Norfolk last year. He is also a good shooting right-handed defensemen which is a huge plus. I don't know how consistant he'll be but right now its just what the Haks needed. Last season the defense scored a total of 21 goals. After last nights game they already have scored 20. However, his play in the defensive zone needs work. He was out of position last night and got turned enough to do a face plant when Mueller blew by him for the Coyotes lone goal. Was a sweet goal too, I must admit. He'll continue to improve.

Haha thats a good point. I highly doubt this guy will be the next Gretzky not to mention the fact that I don't think anyone (at least not in the near future) will be the next Gretzky because he was that special of a player. Personally, I don't like comparing players to past greats because everyone is talented in their own ways.

nicely, we are going to in no way understand. Wayne Gretzky performed in an era whilst scoring became into at an all time severe- he wasn't almost as great enjoying in the ninety's for the period of the hook and carry era. nonetheless outstanding confident, yet not almost as plenty so. that's why many human beings evaluate Mario to be greater advantageous- he have been given very almost as severe because of the fact the 80's Wayne Gretzky in 90s, as wellbeing out parts of each and every season with maximum cancers, injuries, ect, and became right into a much greater comprehensive participant. Wayne Gretzky became right into a made of his circumstances. those circumstances is merely not here lower back, so do not attempt to tension greater healthy Tavares into Wayne's Skates. same element with Crosby truly- enable them to grow to be their very own gamers. (Crosby truly seems to be arising into the subsequent Mario- not dazzling pondering the guy he's residing with...)

I highly doubt it. He's a defenseman.

Most comparisons to Gretzky occur because a player shows talent at a very young age, not after having a big night after he's already playing in the NHL.

John Tavares? Do you not follow hockey at all? I mean hockey does exist outside the NHL. Go look at the OHL stats and get back to me. Man oh man, there is a reason he is being compared to #99 given he started playing in the OHL a year early at 15 years of age, dude!

Nope, he just had a really good night. However, I do think he has the potential to be a good defenseman. Tavares is a forward for the Oshawa Generals in the OHL. It is way too early to be comparing him to Gretzky.

Chris, Byfuglien last name is pronounced BUHF-lihn
