I'm not asking because I want a day off, but holiday pay would be nice.

I work in a hospital, and we have only three recognized holidays where the staff gets time and a half pay--Christmas, New Years, and Thanksgiving. No other holiday is included--including Easter. If I work on Easter, I get paid regular time. I am just wondering what are the labor laws concerning recognition of holidays.
It would be crazy to think that I could just leave my patients unattended because it is a holiday. What I am referring to is pay or other benefits/incentives for working on those days.

No. It is a private enterprise and as such can institute it's own rules concerning holidays. Only government institutions are mandated one way or the other due to church/state issues.

Why? This has unquestionably not something to do with church and state. The Easter Bunny and Santa Claus are approximately as secular as you will get. those are vacations which may well be enjoyed by greater or much less all and sundry, even atheists. If one guy or woman enjoys it as a spiritual holiday, it does not mean that all and sundry has to. what's greater, human beings opt for to have a holiday. it rather is nice to get some day without work. What distinction does it make what excuse we use? in the tip, even the atheist gets the frickin' day without work. So relax. That pronounced, in case you rather need to take this street, why not eliminate ALL vacations, reason wager what? We Christians have fun the 4th of July, Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, or maybe exertions Day at our church as area of our religious ideals. a holiday is a holiday. it rather is barely "Christian" once you're making it so. p.s. i could additionally upload that countless my gay Christian acquaintances could merchandise on your utilising them as area of this argument. Stereotyping Christians isn't an exceptionally great thank you to communicate. Merry Christmas!

The simple answer is no, they do not have to recognize major holidays (by recognize i assume you mean give you the day off). Their is nothing in the law that states that a business or company has to close on any holiday. That is completly up to the discretion of the owner and operator of the business.

How would that be possible? I can picture the entire staff abandoning the patients for the whole 24 hours! At places like that, it is usually understood that there is no guaranteed time off. If you are especially religious, and have to spend the entire day in Church on such occasions, it may be possible to find someone willing to take your place that day in exchange for your working their shift at some other time. You may also be able to switch shifts with others, so that you could work at night and be home for whatever time is more critical for you.

No, why would it? Who is to say what is a major holiday? And what is a hospital supposed to do, shut down on holidays? LoL
Many work places offer holiday pay, like time and a half, but they do this to appeal to workers, not because it's the law.

They recognize all holidays.
Are you asking that they recognize the holidays or are wondering if you work in a hospital for instance do workers get a day off?
Not quite sure of the questions.

yes they do. maybe not Easter lol but major holidays like Christmas. they might not let you get off of work but they will often give you a bonus like 200 percent pay or a gift from your boss. however you can absolutely present a situation where you would have to go to a different state or something to celebrate the holiday with your family.

Recognize as 'exist'? Sure, but you likely won't get the day off if you work in a hospital b/c staff are needed around the clock.

Do you mean if they have to shut down or close for the holidays? If thats what you mean, than the answer is - NO.
Depending on the boss/manager, they can make it more fun and easier to work on holidays, but they cant close down.

If your a medical staff like a nurse you should have a union and with that they will have specific holidays. If you are non medical and do not have a union its up to the company.
