You can't actually "die" of loneliness, but you can become so depressed that you begin to lose the will to live.

Wow....that question just seriously made me feel moved. I mean I've been really lonely, but I then I figured what's the point. We only have one life. I always promised myself that if I ever thought of suicide ever I would just start living like crazy. I would travel all over and make tons of friends and just do whatever. There is so much to live for. There is everything to live for. If you aren't living, you aren't living. You won't even be able to wonder or think or be sad or be happy. You won't be. There are millions of people out there that are in the exact same state as you. All anyone really needs to do is find something to live for. Not just to survive for, but to be passionate about. Get involved. Save some children. There is so much to be done. You could change so many lives. I know you have so many amazing qualities and I don't even know you. The world wouldn't be the same without your presence. I wouldn't be writing you right now at this exact moment. No one else will ever see what you see or have the experiences that you have had and will have. It would be a shame to let all of those unique flashes of life be taken away from the world.

No dear you cannot die of loneliness. It does make life worse than death though.

Why don't you be your best friend ? Try conversing with yourself which loves you, cares for you and wants to guide you. Its no madness or illness, but you will feel better ?
Ask yourself - what's bothering you ? Why are you not feeling happy ? What should we do, lets discuss ? You should get answers.

Also, try doing yoga and meditation. Traverse within and you will explore the new world you would like to be in.

Wish you all the very best and may your life be filled with happy moments.

no, I m also alone in spite of having family, due to different ways of thinking. When death has to come, there will be no question of lonliness.
