By "less intensive" I mean also focused on the typical college stuff, like math and science. Also, a college that would consider both musicial and academical ability.

And not nessesarily a conservatory for performance, but rather theory or composition.

If you want to be a performer, "less intensive" would seem to mean less effective. The competition in the field is so strong that you really can't put only moderate effort into it and succeed. If you are planning on going into something like music education, a conservatory is probably not what you want. The music department of most universities would be just fine.
