I have a Belkin G-router at home but it is not exactly working. I just got a new laptop.I also want it to use it at school, but it isn't working either. My friends tries their laptops on the g-routers and it worked just fine. Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance.

There are such things as "channels" for some routers. If your computer is on channel 6 and your router is on channel 7, there's your problem. Look in the manuals for whether your computer AND your router have channel settings.

There is also the issue of whether your laptop has a built-in wifi transceiver or whether you need to add one. There are such things as USB transceivers. I use one on my desktop box. (In fact, I'm using it now to answer your question.)

Do you even get a signal on your laptop?

If you don't know, try to go to Network connections in your control panel and try to search for a signal.

Did you router come with a cd? You may have to install this cd.

try reading both manuals for the router and your laptop. you may have missed someting like the compatibility mode and the correct procedure in the connection and installation of the same.
