because being manipulated is with the purpose of making someone do something that they wouldn't normally do.
if it was something they wouldn't mind doing, manipulation wouldn't be necessary.
also manipulation generally makes victims look like fools, and it also really isn't a nice thing to do.

No one likes to made a fool of. Nor do people like it when someone lies to get what the want from them which is usually downplayed into the word manipulate.

being manipulated is different of being aware of the life of Jesus Christ and what it means to us believers and lovers of Christ, as for many that indeed is manipulated by a false sense of security and safety by money and things that you just won't take with you when you die, those are the manipulated and some don't even know it, obvious manipulation is rejectable depending on the level of your dignity.

Most people dislike feeling manipulated, because it implies that they were somehow remiss in allowing someone else to overly influence their decisions.

It makes people feel "walked on", "used", and usually pretty angry (mostly at themselves for falling victim to it).
