I'm 29 weeks pregnant and my first childbirthing class is suppose to be tomarrow. I'm kind of undecided if I actually want to go or not. I know it would be good to go to learn the different techniques. But unfortunatly my husband had to have hernia surgery on Thursday and can't get around on his own yet. His dad offered to come over but I just don't think I can sit through a 5hr class and not be home taking care of him. Anyone have any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can't reschedule, this was the last class that was available before my daughter is born and my mom said she would go with me to the classes. I just don't think I can leave my husband home for that long he's in so much pain and I have to help him do everything at this point.

I didn't take childbirth classes, and everything went just fine with me. I was even induced with our son, and didn't have any issues. You can use other resources like your doctor, pregnancy books, and the internet to answer your questions and prepare you for childbirth just as well as any class would. If you want to stay home with your husband, just stay and don't worry. Everything will be just fine.

Congrats on your little one.

Give his dad a chance to take care of him--it could be good bonding time for them, and they might have an opportunity to talk in a way they haven't for a long time, if ever.

And you need your childbirth class--you'll feel so much more prepared and knowledgeable if you go. I spent 3 years as a volunteer doula (birth support person) at the local hospital, and the amount of knowledge each woman came in with made a difference to how she managed her birthing process. Knowledge combats fear.

Good luck and blessings to you, your husband, and your new baby!

Childbirth classes cover very little that isn't found in your basic pregnancy and labor & childbirth books. If you have done your research (and if not you have plenty of time to do it!) there will be very little, if any, new information presented in the class.

Buy or check out some books on labor and delivery, and be informed on your options when it comes to pain relief and delivery methods. Write a birth plan so you feel prepared. You'll do fine :)

The breastfeeding info they gave me was the most helpful, and advice as to which breastpump to get. Other than that, it was more helpful to the men as women tend to read everything possible on it all. Also, for my labour, it went so fast and hard that I couldn't remember anything they told me anyway.

You still have some time - maybe you could order something through your public library or something and go through it with your man later.

can you try to reschedule for the next class sesion? Its really a good idea to have your support partner at the class.

Go to the class - mothers who have had classes are better prepared for birth - and afterwards.
